Pearls for cakes that are normally 4 inches tall using the diamond mat or 1" dot pattern
Using the cake serving chart which gives you the circumference of each size pan.  You will need approximately 4 to 5 pearls per inch to put a pearl at each intersection.
example -  a 10 inch cake has a 32 inch circumference so you would need 128 to160 pearls (depending on how many you drop in the floor and if you put one at the top edge of the cake under the top border)

4 inch tall cakes using the 1" dot or the diamond pattern with a pearl at each intersection -  You will need the number of pearls listed in the darker grey column below.  Using the 3/4" dot mat use the lighter columns

Cakes that are 5 inches tall will use 6 pearls per inch.

My personal preference for this diamond pattern is to use 5MM or 6MM pearls  with 4MM in the centers of the crosses (if you use those).

Bottom pearl borders use the pearls strips done with the CK bead makers.

Use powdered sugar kneaded into the fondant to firm it up when making these 6"strips of pearls.

Pearls #8 scollop pearls are the 6MM CK beadmaker strip pearls.
