My dear friend is having a baby! This is such a sweet moment, she’s been wanting to have children for the longest time and her and her husband are the coolest people. Have you ever heard of people who just deserve the world, but unfortunately suffer in the very thing that they desire? The world can be so cruel at times.
Her and her husband are scientists, which is incredible and they have a startup that makes biologics, which is a fancy word for vials of proteins etc. They make stuff like monoclonal antibodies, which are used in cancer treatment. Or during Covid, they developed a test to see if certain people are immune to covid. Or other things like hgh elisa kits, which is only used in labs, but these little kits are used to study hormone levels and functions. They make all these things in their lab, and are absolute gems. Her husband once told me why he got into science in the first place, and it was to make a positive mark on society. Incredible
She’s super early on, with just missing her period and then taking an at home test. So, time will tell. She’s a scientist, so she knows the ins and outs of the reproductive process. Still, when the hormones are coursing through your veins it can be hard to think rationally. I can remember first being pregnant and obsessively taking other pregnancy tests to confirm. I was so scared of a miscarriage. I know that in my analytical brain that it can take up to 13 weeks for the chance of miscarriage to decrease, and it seems like most happen under eight weeks. But still…. So scary.

But I’m bummed that she’s so far away! Once she’s farther along I want to see if I can come out once the baby is born to give some extra support. But in the meantime I’m going to start to complie a list of healing postpartum foods (like bone broth!) that I’ll either send her… but now that I’m thinking about it, I may just go before the baby is born.
How lovely would it be to have a freezer fully stocked of your favourite meals and broths? I’ve recently bought an instant pot and can make broths in under three hours! I did it once with chicken bones. Three carcasses and a boatload of water. It came out wonderful and I was so sceptical because I wasn’t sure the technique of a pressure cooker could mimic the technique of a long boil. But once cooled down the broth was thic.
And of course I’ll bring cake! I know of some recipes that freeze really well. I’ll make sure to share then once I compile them. That way she can nourish her body postpartum AND satisfy a sweet tooth!
